1870 german imperial 1st class iron cross marked
What about this one??? I think this will bring "real money" It has an unusual Back on it. The information is as follows: 1870 Iron cross 1st class on round back plate with double pin fastener. The back plate is marked L.L. for maker Louis Lemcke in Berlin. Type A Berlin Foundry core, These pictures are all I have on this one also.
Any opinions. It is on an auction and is started at 300.00 and has an unknown reserve.
I am learning about these TR crosses. So any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
John

Hi John,
I am 99% sure this is a fantasy piece.
My 1% of uncertainty comes from the fact that Lemcke
crosses are so rare that we don't have a good datebase
of these to compare against. The two that I have seen
posted both used standard cores from the time. The
same cores that Wagner and Godet used. The next
thing is that hair pin mounting system. Over the years
I have seen several crosses posted that attempted to
use hair pins (for lack of a better term) and all were
deemed fake.
The next thing is just the overall appearence of the
frame and core. They really have that made yesterday
look about them.
hope this helps,
Greg

Not to mention the Pins as well....for 140 year old pins, they don't have a lick of wear, scratches or patina....
