1916 trench knife ?

Hi guys looking for a little help please with this one.
A neighbour of mine has offered me this knife.
I am wary of it just because of how new it looks, and what is the kind of going rate for these if it is ok. because he is wanting me to make him an offer. He got it from an uncle about twenty years ago.
The cut edges of the wood and groves on it are rough to the touch. Also the grip doesn’t follow the metal evenly if that makes sense.
The thing is, its not something I would normally be interested in, its just that it has come up so close to home.

Asian Indians are reproducing WWI German trench knives.
I think this might be one.

The keeper strap on the scabbard is an indication to me that it's original.

I also say that this is an original Kampfmesser...I've seen these sell for up to $275...

Thanks guys for your thoughts so far very kind of you to reply.
Has anyone got any idea what type of wood would have used for the grips and how were they finished ie varnish or linseed oil or similar. To me this looks like varnished light mahogany.
The rest of the set hasn’t got a mark (no chips on the scabbard) ect, so if original could this be the original finish of the grips.
Is there any known reproduction.
He also has a Carl Eickhorn 17 marked type two butchers bayonet with one side grip missing. It was used at his work (a saw mill) by the guys at lunch break, having competitions sticking it into trees.
No scabbard, he wants an offer for this to. any ideas

Honestly, if the butcher blade has a missing grip, no scabbard, and has been abused it might be worth 40 bucks at the most to me...they aren't rare and you can find a complete rig with leather frog for about 150 dollars if you keep your eyes open out there...

That’s what I like to hear good honest opinions.
I was thinking along the lines of £20 myself.
Its just that trench knife now it all looks good apart from that grip.

Looks 100% legit to me Rod. This is one of the more common types, produced by Ern. This doesn't mean they can be found frequently in this superb condition...
The grips can be walnut and are normally untreated...
Over here, they can go between 200 and 300 euro for one in this condition. Hope this helps you...

I think it's ok as well. The scabbard is a good indicator as mentioned.
India made knives are rather roughly made, and the grips are
usually of rosewood, which these are not.

Are these grips not made from local product like basswood or beech
or some such. I don't believe they used exotic or expensive
types of wood.........
