Another fake 1870Ek on ebay

Last time I pointed out the "Muffin Crown" fake. Today while
surfing ebay, I came across another one that fools a lot of
unsuspecting people.

This one is the "Deschler" fake----

SUPER RARE 1870 IRON CROSS 1st CL, MAKER MARKED - eBay (item 110555370482 end time Jul-11-10 13:12:32 PDT)

I am attaching the photos so we will still have them as a
reference once the link goes dead.--

This fake is easily recognised by the unique style of the date.
Especially the "8". Also by it's crown and the fact that it is a
one piece cast piece.

It's called the "Deschler" fake because it was first found
with the "DeschlerSohn" makers mark but has also been
seen marked "Ges. Gesch." , "D&S" , "Munchen 9" and
with various 800, 900, 925 silver marks. It can be found
with different style pins and also as a screwback.

Good info here Greg, thanks for posting. 1870's EK's are a minefield !...however with this type of thread, the minefield can be traversed...I am amazed at the amount of 1870 fakes on Fleabay....IMO best bought from a good dealer.....

Ebay can be a great soarce of original militaria--BUT--you really
have to do your homework. The great majority of my crosses
came off ebay. Including some of my 1870s and my 1813.

I get alot of mine from ebay as well but I have yet to see a real 1870 EK1. I will take both advice and keep getting what I know off ebay but will probably get my first 1870 EK1 elsewhere. Someday?
