Yes, storage case.
Are these common to find?
Not that I have seen. Not really my area, I only have one pickelhaube. I'm just curious to see what more experienced members like oradour or Adler might think of this one.
It is a very nice example of an enlisted helmet with a taller than normal spike. Possibly private purchase.

Very nice Haube, and the case is a very big bonus. Still, it looks like it has at one point been taken appart. Some pins of the spike are loose, and the indide leather of the chin strap looks to new. Could it be a parts Haube?
I'd be interested in more photos if they will send them to me. Probably not a helmet I will pursue.
