Bayerische Raupenhelm ? - Information Needed

Hello Gentlemen,
I hope members may be able to help me out with information on this Raupenhelm I been offered. I've been told it a Bavarian 1870's Raupenhelm - personally I'm not so sure its either Bavarian or 1870's, also is the helm complete!I thought they all had a small hanging chain across the front, but as I know so little I'm very much in the dark. I've put it through google without much feedback information. I've looked the helmet over, unable to find any maker-marks, the seller is looking for 400 euro perhaps members may intermate, what raupenhelms normally retail for. Any information welcome.

It is a good helmet. Bavarian rappenhelm. Nice find, all there.

hi nothing wrong with this helm , a fine and hard to find example . the wool raupe, (catterpillar) was worn from 1800/1886. the two piece wappen was in use from 1868/1886 . on these helms a huppe/wollen plume was also worn extending from the bayen kokarde on the left hand side of the helm. infantry regiments did not use the additional huppe/wool plume , jajer used a green plume, schutzen (green) , sanitatskompanien (red),chevaulegers (white). hope this is of some help....cheers paul

hi alec, i would buy it in a heartbeat , a very fair price in my opinion . not an item you see for sale that often. last time i saw one for sale was over 4yrs ago at a militaria fair in the uk ,it was priced at £550. glad the info was of help...cheers paul
