Chris...original, these are quite common, even with box...now the classes above this, thats a different matter ! the one you show is for a "Combatant" (with Swords) awarded during wartime... this medal could still be awarded for meritous service during peacetime, only without the swords....see here for further information regarding this award Military Merit Cross - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) and click on Bavaria version....

I also have this 4th class for officers. I think i posted it too but don't remember for sure

Chris..as I said in my post above....."now the classes above this, thats a different matter !" so the answer is no.

Chris....I did mean the classes above, remember your cross was originally established on July 19, 1866 as the 5th Class ! during its lifespan (1866-1918) this series of crosses went through lots of changes, 1891 and finally 1913, classes were split into two and so forth, Officer/NCO/EM etc etc... read the link given in my post and it will become clear....it is a complicated award.
