    Default The Deschler Fake

There have been a number of threads recently that have asked about
this particular style of 1870 iron cross.

This fake 1870 Ek is known as the Deschler fake or the pothole fake.
Called this because when they first appeared on ebay a few years ago, 99% of them
    were marked "Deschler & Sohns".

First and foremost -- almost all of these are cast 1 piece crosses. This discussion
should end here but a lot of people can not see this from the usually poor ebay pictures
so here are some of the things to look for to help you spot this turd of a cross.

The easiest way to to identify this cross is the font used in the date.
Anyone seriously looking to buy a 1870 Ek needs to acquaint themselves with the
font styles used on original 1870 crosses. It's not difficult, they are only 3 or 4 original
    styles.

The next best way to identify this cross is the crown and its round holes--- hence
    the name "pothole fake".

These crosses come with a variety of different makers marks.
Most common is "DeschlerSohn" , "Deschler & Sohns" and "Munchen 9" but I have
also seen them with 'D-S" "DS" "Sedan" and others. I have also seen them stamped
with a ww2 style RZM mark.

The can also be found in 2nd class versions as well as 1914 crosses.

Remember when looking for 1870 crosses.
-There are no 1 piece originals.
    -There are no 1870 screwbacks
-There are no maker marked 1870 EK2s
    EVER
