Not my area of expertise, but a UK eBay seller or two (possibly same seller with multiple accounts) "turns them up" often. Like at least a dozen a year. Also has bad fake WWI field caps and other rarities often. Wise to ask, but if you are looking at eBay, check the seller's sold listings for repeats.
It is a fake and it does come from the UK. This seller also offers a lot of 1914 crosses
that are fake as well.
The great thing about 1870 crosses is that there were only a very few variations
in design of original crosses. That makes them easy to study.

This is exactly what an original should look like. Note the
style of the crown, the shape of the "W" and the font style of the date. This is what
you need to study.
