Eisernes Kreuz Klasse 1 - screwback - assistance requested.

Hey chaps

I purchased a lovely EK1 spange last week and now need a 1914 EK1 to go with it.

This caught my eye, mainly because it is priced apparently reasonably.

However, I am not familiar with screwback EKs therefore would appreciate your help. I know it has an issue with the frames splitting but at 125 (or hopefully less) it is not bad to me.

To be honest Jamie I would pass on this one unless there is a particular reason (other than price) for wanting it. A cheap medal is usually a false economy unless you are collecting by type, maker etc.

This one has the frame separation issue because it has been vaulted and the frame could completely pop open at any time. I am not mad about the screw post either. Overall it isn't a very clean example and it isn't a silver frame type.

You indicate you want an example to pair with a spange that you sound pleased with so I assume you don't intend to collect these other than one to illustrate the cross/spange combination? If the spange is a nice one it would be a shame to pair it with this cross I feel.

If that is the case I would look for a good silver framed piece with decent detail and of course it doesn't have to be a screw back.
