EK II 1914 backwards

Hello everybody

Why do some soldiers took pictures with his cross on backwards? Error, aesthetic or protest?

By the way, I love the design on backwards, many details and I love oak leaves

If an EKII was newly awarded, I'd say it was simply due to how it is hanging from
it's ribbon. If one is on a bar, it could be for sentimental, historic, or as you say,
aesthetic reasons. This practice dates back to the early 1800's - they were
worn backwards because the obverse was plain - no date, oakleaves,
cypher or crown..........

I read somewhere that after the abdication of the king in 1918, many turned
there crosses around. They did not want to display the royal initials (FW) but still
wanted to wear there crosses.

1813--no obverse features.
