It's an original cross Brian so no issues there. Imperial items are faked to a certain degree but perhaps the guys in the Imperial forum can answer you question more accurately.

Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....

Hi guys. I like it too. Imperial items are also faked but not as much as TR ones. This is logical as TR items are much more expensive and more desirable to collectors. So this tempts forgers to make copies. The more expensive is a certain award the more faked it gets.

True, but I feel that fakers have started to notice the market for WW1-militaria for real, judging from the increasing supply of fakes on ebay etc. This is however a very subjective observation on my part and might not be so accurate We are also approaching the 100th anniversary of the start of the Great War and I believe this also will spur more interest in Imperial German militaria/WWI-militaria in general. And when the collector-demand changes character, the fakers follow. We that enjoy collecting WWI-related items have been quite lucky till now, because of the relatively few reproductions out there. I think however this is about to change for the worse..

You are right about ebay but don't forget that TR items are banned there, so you can see fakes only from WWI and before. I also agree that now that the year 2014 is getting near, prices of WWI medals will increase highly and this will tempt forgers even more.

I was talking about the entire market as I know and see it, not just Ebay. That was an example. In general I feel that the ratio between TR-fakes on one side and WWI-fakes on the other side is changing. So that a larger part of the total fake-supply is made up of WWI-items than before.
