German Medal Identification

Hi everyone. I am new to your site. I have purchased a 1914 German Medal, am I am wondering if anyone can tell me about it.
Is it real? What does the inscription say? What does the F stand for?

Any information will be appreciated.

I think this is a War service medal, it says, if my meagre German is ok "For service in War" , not sure about the "F" unless it stands for Ferdinand

An on line translator states that the inscription says, "For services in the war"
I would think the 'F" stands for Frederick.
Wait for others to post, I may be wrong.

It's a 1914 Friedrich Cross 2nd Class. There were two types, the green and red ribbon for combatants and the green and white ribbon which was for non com's.

The Cross was created by Duke Friedrich II of Anhalt on 12 December 1914 for officers, military officials, non-commissioned officers and other ranks, as well as other persons, without regard for rank or status, who showed particular excellence in the theatre of war or exemplary conduct on the home front in support of the war. The cross is quite rare.

'Fur verdienst im kriege' means 'For merit in war'.
