laurent be patient this is a very specilist area that very few people study i am no expert but it is in very clean condition the enamel looking like it was made yesterday but the rest doesn't look cast like i would expect if it was a fake so im at a loss bit good bit bad imo i think the centre may be replaced/cleaned a lot thats just my opinion so wait for the specialists to say

Hi Laurent, the badge is made by the same ' makers ' as the Bavarian pilot badges that have spokes in only one wheel of the undercarriage. These are seen often,in fact whenever a Bavarian pilot badge comes onto the market it is 9 times out of ten one of these bogus pieces. I am afraid to say that your piece is also from this ' maker ' . They are not seen quite as often as the pilot badges but are certainly questionable. Real Bavarian examples of both pilot and observer are few and far between . Sorry but this one IMO is not original period . At best ,a possible 1930's replacement piece .Ferg

I can't see why you think this badge is questionable, it all looks good to me. There are detail differences between makers and I don't know how many makers there were so nothing would surprise me but with the Pilot's Badges that I have I'm hard put to see how many spokes there are on the wheels. I'll have to post some pics of my badges and would like to have your input.

Take a good close up look at the Bavarian pilot badge (if you have one) genuine period Bavarian pilot badges made by the Pollath company wil quite clearly show spokes in both wheels of the undercarriage. (This is only one of several of the differences ,but the most obvious). The pilot badge with the missing spokes are usually marked CARL POELLATH and are seen frequently. This observer is certainly from the same 'outlet' . Now.... is it true to say that most items marked with the CARL POELLATH or C.POELLATH logo are mostly ( but not always) a sign of a 1930's production or later. War time (WW1) pieces are normally marked KARLPOLLATH. What I am saying is ,it could be possibly a post war piece (1930-40's) but due to the large quantity of these badges on the market,especially the pilot badges ,I rather think they are bogus. The Bavarian fliegertruppe were small in number so to find these badges all over the place is not safe. Finding a good period piece is not easy as they are RARE. Is this a real one? No makers mark. only has 925 in center of badge. Made of 2 pieces.
