    It says:

"Daily Military Report of the Münchner Neueste Nachrichten*
Munich, Friday, 18 August 1916, afternoon, 4 PM

Official Report. W.T.B. Grand Headquarters, morning of 18 August

    Western Theater of War
North of the Somme, the enemy continues his intense efforts with no regard for the heavy casualties. To this end, the English have newly fielded several divisions. Southwest of Martinpuich, they have succeeded in pushing back our forward line into one that is located close behind it across a small width, whereas they have been repelled outright north of Pozieres and just west of the Foureaux Forest. The French once again shifted their assaults to the nighttime hours. Around midnight, major forces were pushing forward against our positions between Guillemont and Maurepas; they were repelled in the bloodiest way; in the projecting part of our line northeast of Hardecourt, the fighting was bitter and thus far wihout a decision. The artillery forces' activity is of constant particular intensity.
To the right of the Meuse, the opponent was attacking across a wide front between Fort Thiaumont and the Chapitre Forest in the evening as well as in the western part of the montane forest in the morning. The fighting is still going on by the village of Fleury; everywhere else, the enemy onslaught has been repelled.

Near Nesle, a French byplane has been forced to land through defensive fire.

    Eastern Theater of War

    Generalfeldmarschall von Hindenburg's front:
Apart from a minor, but intense engagement west of Lake Nobel that has not yet been concluded at this time, only insignificant clashes between forward positions occurred.

General der Kavallerie Erzherzog Karl's front:
On the army front of General Graf von Bothmer, Turkish troops have repelled Russian assault detachments.
In the Carpathian Mountains, the successes have been expanded to Obczyna; some 200 prisoners were made and several machine guns captured.

    Balkan Theater of War
Following the Entente Powers' unsuccessful attacks over the last days, our allied troops set out on a counter-attack. Following fighting against the Serbian Danube Division, Florina was taken.
German aircraft successfully attacked Russian destroyers and a submarine northeast of Kara Burnu.

The official Russian report from the evening of 11 August mentions the destruction of one battalion of the German Reserve Infantry Regiment No. 3 through an armored automobile's machine gun fire near Monasterzyska. In contrast to this, it is to be noted that the battalion has merely suffered a total of two wounded in this occurrance.
