Question How to start collecting Imperial beer steins?

Any advice on how one would begin to become educated about collecting ww1 imperial beer steins? (as well as the ww2 german "stubby" ones!!) How much should one expect to pay for an authentic ww1 regimental stein?
Any suggested sites, dealers, etc? Thanks, Bill

I don't know anything about collecting beer steins, but the first thing you need to do is educate yourself on your chosen hobby. If there is any money in what you collect, somebody is trying to fake them. Look for sites specific to your hobby, you won't be the only one collecting them, and learn from the people who have been doing it for awhile.

Next, get the reference books you need and study, study, and then study some more. Meet with collectors and find as many pictures of your chosen item as you can and note the details. Pretty soon, you'll be picking out the good from the bad and you will become, if not an expert, at least competent.

    Best regards,
    Sam

    Go to this auction site.
    Gary Kirsner Auctions
go to past auctions and check last march. Alot of military steins sold at that one.
Top of the line steins and excelent reference books.
Avoid ebay at all costs. Lots of fakes.
    Hope this helps.

    Hi Bill,

Pretty much everything you'd need to know about Beer Steins and their history is here:

I think it may answer many questions for you and be a big help to boot!
