John, this Attila is from one of three Regiments that used Cornflower Blue as a tunic colour, together with white braid and silver buttons...the 12th, 13th and 16th Husaren Regiments. Only when worn with the cap whose colour combination determined the actual Regiment.....it is for a one year volunteer trooper, indicated by the black and white piping around the shoulder straps, and shows the rank "Gefreiter" by the addition of small silver heraldic buttons on either side of the collar. The "chevron" on the right upper arm is a fencing distinction first class insignia. The Attila could be original, however be aware that high quality reproductions are available in Germany, these are hard to differentiate on photographic evidence only...in hand look for wear, especially loss of nappe from the doeskin material and fluffing of the braid, which I would expect to see on an item of this age...this one does look very clean, especially inside and note the lack of internal belt....most had this feature....I would of expected a private purchase tunic from a one year volunteer, complete with tailoring labels, this looks to be of a standard issue pattern....possible red flag....
Prost ! Steve.
