The story goes, that young royals were awarded
all sorts of medals and orders. More than the
average guy and they would run out of room one
there tunics for all of their medals so the answer was
to give them smaller medals. These are called "Prinzen"
medals and that goes back to the story of the royals.
True or not ??? I don't know but it sure sounds good.

Re: Imperial Eks
This single mounted Prinzen, as well as many other single mounted Prinzens that I saw personally or on vintage photos, lead me to think, that the only reason for Prinzen sizes in that era was pure vanity. Nothing else.
How many space you save between normal and Prinzen size? Maximum 6-7 mm (41 contrary to 35 mm). So you need 7 medals to save the space for 8th one.
With beginning of ww1 era this argument becomes even weaker - If you had lot of medals, you could use ribbon bar, or not?
Best, Miro
