Strange it is unknown, or at least not proofed, since there are so many around ! It must be one of the most common ones ?!

Quantitative theory is the only proof of Klein&Quenzer being the KO maker. And I think it is very strong, although not straight evidence.

There is one producer, about whom we know he produced a lot of crosses, whose mark is unknown and there is one widely spread mark KO, that has no producer.

Btw, KO doesn´t mean Klein & Quenzer AG, Idar-Oberstein. It means Klein, Oberstein. Alfred Quenzer was already dead in 1918, and the Klein&Quenzer AG was founded in 1928. It looks that between 1918 and 1928 Klein used only his name for maker´s mark.

The town Idar-Oberstein didn´t exist until administrative reform in 1933.

PS: I share the opinion that this is correct and original KO cross.

However it is still possible that Klein never marked
their crosses and KO was somebody completely different.

Of course, Greg. If we haven´t straight evidence, everything is possible.

But if we were able to believe in Koenigliches Munzamt being KO maker only because of two matching letters, no we can at least tend to theory, which has a lot of strong, although not straight evidences.

    Hi guys,

I have just received this EK2. A little rusty, but otherwise ok.
My question is to the maker !
    It has mm ? W . ? Could be a bad stamped F or an I ?
It would make it a Franz Xaver Wimmer or Iohann Wagner &Sohn .
Could any of you role one out, buy looking at the design or ……?
I would very much appreciate any input :-)

?W can be SW. Here is mine. If you check the ring on the first photo, you can see it is marked very similar way with only W clearly visible.

I think likely not Iohann Wagner. Here is my example to compare and I see that the oak leaves on the reverse are different.

I tend to believe it is an F, because the part of the stamp that is there is a straight leg with a small point pert riding from the center. I find it hard to be an S, but likely an F !
I will try to photo it or make a small sketch in one of the coming days :-)

But several companies used a number of iron cores, meaning several crosses with same mm but different cores !

    Hello Marc,
Since your photos are not clear enough to compare frame details, I posted mine for reference. Compare the inner and outer corner frame details to yours. This should eliminate the "same maker, different cores" problem.
