Roger that, I'll fire up some pictures tonight (I'm still at work) Eastern Standard Time.
The ring is only affixed to one side and curled over.

Better pictures really help .
I am really starting to like this one.

First let me say, I am pessimistic when it comes
to early crosses. I've been doing this for over
a decade and have really only seen maybe 15 or 16
original 1813s posted on the four different forums
I belong to. So I had my doubts when I first
looked at your cross. However the more I looked at
it, the more I liked it. I compared it against several
known examples and sent copies of your pictures
out to others with experience with these early crosses.
( the last photos really were a help BTW) I think it's
pretty safe to say --------You have a perfectly fine ,
ORIGINAL 1813 Ek2.

Gents,
This is amazing. Greg, Micro thank you for your in depth analysis. I must say I was very doubtful.
Another thing I noticed is that it is slightly smaller than the 1914s that I have. I'm away this weekend, however, I can send dimensions in due time.
I received my first iron cross from my grandfather over 10 years ago. I didn't really get into collecting until recently. I'm going to let him know
You are very welcome. It's fun for me to be
able to give you good news. I enjoy researching
these early ones. My 1813 is also smaller than
the standard 1914. --- If you don't mind. Send
me the size and weight (if possible) in a Private Message.
I will add that and your photos to my files.
Congratulations,
Greg

Congrats Donny! Its good to see something so unusual turn out to be good. You must be livin' right! Chopperman, out of curiosity what would one expect to spend to acquire one of these?
Congratulations on your good fortune Donny and well done to Greg for authenticating it!
Nice to read a good news story once in a while, it makes a change from the threads where someone has got burned.
Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....
