Looks like this is Koch & Bergfeld, company owned by M. Hansen during ww1. Rarest of the rarest EK1 1914s. Hansen itself is very rare and Koch & Bergfeld is only one of 4 companies owned by Hansen. I checked forums and never seen this one with side hooks.
And yes, I caught it, flying nearby

Congrats mate !
See you in the skies !
Did you get it at a good price ??
I didn't see it up for sale, strange, sometimes you don't see all items for sale !!

No I did not see it !
Anyway, I would not have known the rarity of it :-/
Happy you got it :-)

Absolutely wonderful cross.
This is the only Hansen (or K&B) that I have ever seen
with hooks. This was either a special order cross or the
hooks were jeweler added. Either way, a rare beauty.
Congratulations

Live to ride -- Ride to live
I was addicted to the "Hokey-Pokey" but I've turned
myself around.
So I bought this thing. Wasn't by any means a good deal but I felt drawn to having a document in perfect shape and an original frame. As a member notified me, these frames aren't that great. The document wasn't actually printed on even paper, or printed evenly on the paper. Whoever framed and sealed this in the frame didn't do a good job either (Germans had bigger issues going on in 1917, ie whose horse was next to be slaughtered for food). It was slightly crooked. I went in and cleaned the glass and straightened it out in the frame.
I'd love to hear any thoughts on the recipient's name if anyone can make it out.
54. Infantry Division was commanded by Oskar von Watter. Did they have auto signatures or could this actually be his?
It would be impossible to solder The hooks afterwards (silver solder , as pin and catch), unless the cross was taken all apart and the lead removed from the frame edges !!
