Thank you, this had answered some questions and sparked a few others. Where might I go to read up on the different cores? I know there is some information in this thread.

I've read The Iron Cross A History, 1813-1957, by Gordon Williamson. It offered an excellent baseline understanding of the iron cross, but it did not delve into the makers or variations. Are there any other references you might suggest?

I have been told that this 2 book set is a very
good resource for Ek collectors----

"The history and Significance of a Medal" by Frank Wernitz.

I have not seen it so I can not give a good review.
However there has been a lot of discussion about this
book on different forums. As with any book of it's kind,
it does have it's mistakes.

IMO the best reference I have found for collectors is the
different on-line forums. You get people showing
different variations with real world feedback.

After a time, new addition to my collection. Single mounted EK2 1914. Cross looks to be early Godet with sandcasted core.

The core is the same core used by Godet,
Meybaurer and a couple others.

I can not make a good judgement on the frame
from the photos provided.

Perhaps Miro will know this one.

Godet! I think these wideframes were made during TR era, reason of wider cut was to reach the TR look. Also the frame die is much worn on these. Here is mine, posted earlier, marked G.
