[QUOTE=Miro;1320704] I know your EK2 twin. It was my reference cross when I studied this Prinzen type.

I'm glad I was able to help.

I found my Prinzen on ebay many years ago. There were
hardly any bidders because the seller was unsure of it's
originality because it was not the correct size. I don't
remember the exact price but I know it was under $50.

It´s called collector´s luck. 50 dollars is really good price for such nice cross. Maybe it would be good to post it here for reference.

It doesn't take much convincing for me to show off my little treasures.

Hi Chaps, it's a long, long time since I posted on this thread; but I picked up something today worth posting. Here's my first 1870 EK2. Look o.k. to me & I think it's a Type "A" core looking at others in the thread. It's the first I've held & certainly has a nice feel to it,

    Cheers,

    Richard.

P.S.: - Looking closely it looks like it's been dropped on it's bottom right hand corner at some time. This has pushed the frame in a little so it covers the bottom right of the 'W' by a couple of millimeters.

    Richard,
Congratulations on your first 1870 Iron cross.
It looks like a perfectly good type A cross to me.

Now you need one with oak leaves to go with it.

Very nice cross!!! I would say the subtle (or narrow) frame cut is the reason why the W goes under the frame. We see it sometimes on 1914ers or 39ers as well, where swas goes under the beading.

There is not enough space for core to "travel" couple of millimetres in the frame, even after droping on the ground. Sometimes with these 1870ers the core rattles in the frame, but it is caused by deformation of the frame (age, wear) and it happens within the range of 0,5 to 1 mm.

Hi Miro, yeah I think you're right. The corners of the cross don't show any signs of being dropped.
