Miro, where did you find out MFH is Max Fleck und Sohne, Hamburg ?

Although they spell it as M. FLEX & SOHN. Attached photo shows correct spelling of this jeweler´s name on the carton box for Feldehrenzeichen.

Maybe there were two jewelers in Hamburg, one called M. FLEX and second one M. FLECK, but I doubt it. Flex is just incorrect spelling, IMO.

I don't put a lot of faith in some of the stuff found in books lately
but I do very much like it when original cartons, boxes and wrappers
can point us to a maker.

    Default Brass framed EK's

Hi Chaps, here's a couple EK's I've picked up over the last few months. Both seem to be private purchase silvered brass framed examples. Other than that they are normal construction. The EK2 has a maker mark on the ring that looks like a square. Also of note is that the convex EK1 has rounded corners,

    Cheers,

    Richard.

Just received a vaulted EK1 and it's marked 800. If you can identify the maker, please let me know.

EK2 is Carl Dillenius, EK1 is C.F. Zimmerman, Pforzheim. It would be interesting if these really have brass frame, but I think it´s only patina.

Hi Miro, thanks for the maker info, much appreciated. Yeah, I thought it was patination; but under a glass you can see the base metal under the plating. It's very difficult to photograph; but I'll give it a try tomorrow.

    Nice crosses Rich.
Miro is spot on with his assessment of the makers.
My first thought on the ek2 would be discoloration from tabacco.

    Jeff,
I like the dark patina on your cross. If it were mine, I would resist
all urges to clean and polish the frame.

    I can't place a maker-yet. It's a fairly generic core so frame details
will need to be studied. Can you show a straight on shot of the reverse?

Clean and polish the frame? I wouldn't dare.
