Default EK 1 mini, good or bad ??

    Hi guys,

This is actually my very first miniature EK
I haven´t got a clue about these, I picked it up the other day at 14 euros (ok price ??)
Finish and details are quite good, which made me think it was a good one

I would like to ask you if it´s good or bad ??
And when were these made ?? in the 30´or .....??

Any comment will be much appriciated

    MFG

    Hi Marc,

Really the first one? I have nearly as much mini EKs as fullsizes, haha. Although not pin types, I focus on buttonbacks.
It´s a good one and I´d say quite early (early postwar or beginning of 20´s at latest).
In general we can say, the bigger mini, the older stickpin. First EK2 (1870) stickpins had 18-20 mm minis (and the earliest ones were hollow struck), then the EKs downized to 16, then 11 mm... At the beginning of TR era they were mostly 9mm, at the end 6 mm.
Another feature is the style of EK (to me yours is early) and the style of attaching needle to the mini. When it is soldered straight, it is mostly before TR era, when it is made via small disc, it is TR era. Of course none of these rules works absolutely, but combination of these 3 factors gives you the approximate timeframe.

Posting you one later 6 mm mini, that just passed through my hands.

Can't really comment on the minis as they are not my cup of tea, but you have a really marvelous EK1 (Carl Dillenius?) there, Marc! I don't know whether you have already shown it here on the forum or not, but thanks for choosing it as a comparison and posting it.

    Marc,
That's a nice mini. Be careful --- those damnd little crosses
are addicting. I just got another last week. I'll post it when I get a little
    extra time.

    Thanks a lot guys :-)
Thanks Miro for the most informative and detailed answer.
Even though I don't think minis will be a new addiction ( can't afford another ) it is always good to broaden the horizont ;-)
Yes Pavel, I have posted this CD 800. It was one I got "in pieces" and made a total rebuilt !

Default My First EK I - An Unmarked Imperial

I recently acquired this, my first and so far my only EK I. As you can see, it's an unmarked example and I wondered if anyone had any thoughts on it as to maker or anything else. Any information would be most welcome!

It is not unmarked, as you can see there is a mark on the reverse right in the middle. It is referred to as a "Square punch".

    That's a nice first cross
The square punch crosses are thought to be made by Carl Dillenius of Pforzheim.
