Chopperman, a super crisp Berlin foundry cored 1870 cross !......do you have a Godet cored type 2 ?, if so, perhaps a side by side shot to show members the difference ?.... just a thought.

    Good Idea.

Here is a Type B cross made by Godet. Also called the "short 7"
core, This style core was only made by Godet.

The "type A" cored cross are the earliest 1870 version of the
1870 crosses and are the style that were the awarded crosses
and not the later replacement and Jubilee crosses. The cores
were cast at the Royal Iron Foundry in Berlin. Wagner and Godet
used these cores in their crosses. The foundry was closed in
Febuary of 1873. The "type B" cross was were Godets first
attempt at making their own cores "in house.

    Here is a side-by-side of a type A and type B cross.

Chopprman, excellent crosses !...a well explained narrative, to other viewers of this thread these crosses are heavily faked at the moment including well known 9th bead and Latvian examples, it is imperative that you do your homework when considering a purchase of the 1870 EK.

Could anyone comment on this one ?

I'm concerned about all the warnings of fakery out there.

Got this one 4 or 5 years ago and mated it to the medal bar
which only had the commemorative .
