Imperial Germany never engraved blades during WW1 its a con game initiated by us Brits in the 60's and 70's on swords that moved on to so called presentation bayonets which from the 20's are incredibly rare and beautifully done or pieces from the beginning of the 20th century.
On this piece the engraving is dreadful the bayo is a walking out 98na from postwar imo. Sorry to be so blunt there is a very good report on this somewhere on the net if I remember correctly from way back complied by a collector.

    Regards
    Eric
