I know that this is an often-faked badge, so I would appreciate some opinions on this one...These were all produced postwar 1921 onwards...
It is a hollow 2-piece badge (the seam is visible on the bottom photo), and the reverse hardware looks good to me...The Niemann Price Guide states that these were available in hollow and solid versions...German seller states that this was found during a house-cleanout along with other WWI militaria...
    Any input is appreciated, friends...
    cheers, Glenn

As Greg states, these are a minefield but, I have a good feeling about this one Glenn.
Sorry I can't really help but I don't study these.

    Hi Glenn,

As Greg rightly says, these are an absolute minefield and it's a lottery as to if this was an original private purchased piece as these were never contracted or awarded by the Weimar government. The badge was awarded as a REMEMBRANCE (unofficial) to members of Panzer units that took part in at least 3 combat ops, be they commander, gunner, driver, mechanic or radioman during operations in 1918. Only 99 were ever awarded commencing from June 1921.

The contractor for producing the original badges was C.E. Juncker of Berlin, and the badge was made of nickel silver, these were produced over periods of time up until around 1940, and there is evidence that other companies may have produced copies of it up to this time as well.

Regarding the badge above, it does appear to be of the correct design and has a proper Juncker rear set up. IMO it could as well be the real deal as it may be a pup, but the quality is there to my eye so if pushed i'd say I like it....But i'd never buy it as it's almost impossible to actually PROVE it's a good one, such is the dilemma regarding these rare early pieces. You know how hard it is to verify if a WW1 pilot's badge is good? Well, this ones a hundred times harder than that I believe, and anyone who is prepared to say with a 100% certainty that this is a genuine piece awarded to one of the 99 tankers that earned it is a better man than most.

    Regards, Ned.

    Seriously nice badge, but.......!

I've noticed an exorbitant large amount of fakes in Germany right now, both ww1 and ww2 !
So be careful out there ;-)

Thank you all for your input and added information...I am tempted to buy if it is a pre-1945 piece...I just don't want to buy a post-45 copy...

as has been already said, be highly suspicious of these. In my opinion it doesn't have the quality on the wreath to be an original, and coupled with the fact that these are so rare, I wouldn't go for it.
