An original bar and quite a common combination. The second medal is the Ehrenkreuz fur Frontkampfer 1914/18 or commonly known as the Hindenburg medal. It was awarded to veterans of WW1 in combatant, non combatant and next of kin variants.

There is a superb thread in the Third Reich Orders and Decorations forum about them. Look in the sticky 'Useful Reference Links' thread.

Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....

A good representation as to what the common
    ww1 vet would have had.

    Thanks Guys for the information.
Will ad it to my WWI EK2's display or should I ad it to my WWII display?

I'd put the Ehrenkreuz fur Frontkampfer in a WW2 display as it came into being in the 1930s, But it'd be a shame to split the medals up!..

Yes, it's an Assmann piece. On top is Assmann's "A" trademark; the abbreviation "A & S" is for Assmann & Söhne [= Assmann & Sons].
