    Hello.

I have been offered this EK1, 1870, for a good price. It comes cased and seemed to be in good condition. Does anyone know, iif this could be a good one? I think, it could be a secondary piece (Zweitstück), maybe from early 20th centurym before or during WW1. Could I be right?
    Thank you

I've got a picture of a 2nd class version of this cross stored in my FAKES file. I don't
have any other information listed with it so I can't say when or where this was spotted
but it is one that I would stay away from.

I can say with some certainty that it is definitely not an awarded piece and does not
match what we accept as a "jubilee" piece.

    hope this helps,

The cross is definately bad. The hardware and date says it all. Most peices I have seen claiming to be WW1 or even WW2 era were not very convincing to me. If I were to grab one of these beauties I would want it to be from this time frame 1870-1890s. I would say the case is also questionable. It doesnt look like it was origionally made for an EK.

The box/case looks to have been re-worked from one which
was used for some other purpose - like the ones
    medalions come in........
