M16 helmet relic

Article about: Thanks for the extra photos. It does look as though it sat somewhere with moisture, but it doesn't look dug. as far as the paint, again not having it "in hand", it's hard to tell.

hi ingrid im afraid not the inside has badly pitted surface rust ,ive noticed as on mine and yours they have a ribbed appearence as it flares out maybe they are from the same maker thanks james

ingrid although i cant make out any markings on the inside i would say mine is a size 62 also as my remaining lug has a similar depth brow plate spacer i would love to know why one was cut off flush with the spacer it has the same patina as the shell so cant be recent was there a common practise to do this ? regards james

James....after careful examination, I do not think your lug has been cut flush..it looks to me that it is still there, albeit "squashed" flush with the spacer ! (blow up the photo and see) it was not the norm to remove or cut down these lugs, just to fill them with mud or paper as the wind had an annoying habit of whistling thro into ones lugholes ! and remember, if one or both were removed, it would render the attachment of the Stirnpanzer impossible !
    Prost ! Steve.

    Hi Ingrid,
Nice helmet shell and as said with the stepped lugs i would say a small size, and i think you had that at a good price.
These are hard to find in my part of the country, but im still looking.
