    Default M1871 Seitengewehr

Hi, M1871 bayonet manufactured by W.A. Kirschbaum Solingen and marked B.A. XIX. 13. - the year of manufacture has been machined off. I understand that the marking indicates weapon no. 13 of the XIX Army Korp's Depot - so it could be a reissued obsolete bayonet. Mismatched scabbard is marked 53. R. R .15. 49. for weapon no. 49 of the 15th Company of the 53rd Reserve Infantry Regiment (5. Westfälisches Infanterie-Regiment) which was part of the VII Army Corps - the scabbard has not been reissued (many regimental numbers are crossed out and remarked) - as the regiment had 16 Companies this was probably a depot company. Any comments welcome. Cheers Terry

That is a nice one. I have seen pic's with this bayonet being used with the commission 88 rifle and have alway thought about adding one to my collect to put on my AMBERG 88.
    Thanks For sharing the pic!!
