    Hello everyone.

Have a question about obtaining an m1889 model Prussian Degen. The sword has the fixed guard, rather than the one that can collapse. It's in decent condition, made by PD Luneschloss and has the bllackened scabbard. There aren't any inscriptions or extra insignia on the grip.

Seller is offering 200.00 but I don't think that's much of a bargain. Am I being too stingy?

$200 is way too cheap for a 1889 Prussian Officers sword with a stationary guard. Do you know the seller? It almost sounds suspiciously like something Pawel Nowak would be offering.

Is it an infantry officer's sword? They can be bought for $350-400, for a nice example, as they are quite common.
Or, is it a cavalry enlisted or officer M89 sword? There are usually a number of enlisted private purchase, regimentally engraved examples on Ebay, and you can find good ones for $ 450-500 or so. Some regiments are more expensive than others.
    Photos would help.

Thanks for responding. Unfortunately the Craig's list ad expired and I don't have pictures. Who is pawel nowak? Does he sell fake m1889s? Are there any tell tale signs of a fake m89? The ad was listedlocally here in eastern NY state.

Pawel Nowak is located in Poland, but he "sells" fake Everything. He is a very well known fraud for many years now. His method is to find a photo of a good original sword, dagger,or what have you on the Internet....he then copies it and posts a listing for it for sale all over the world using the stolen photos. He always lists the price as very cheap, so people will be fooled into thinking they are getting a rare bargain and pounce on it immediately. When they send him the money, they never get anything back for it, of course, as he never had it to begin with.

Thanks for the input. This would be an in person transaction. No wiring of money
