    Gents,

Was out combing the countryside for militaria yesterday and stumbled upon these little tidbits. Your comments are welcome. The center badge has no maker marks and looks to be a more modern piece. My only assumption to this is the apparent use of a clear adhesive to bond the components together? I'm interested to hear everyone's expertise on this one.

    Regards,

    Joel

buellmeister, patriotic badges, first to celebrate the alliance between Germany & Austro-Hungary, second an Austro-Hungarian double headed dual monarchy patriotic badge, the third is also commemorative badge to celebrate/recognise the Central Powers alliance, showing heads of state of Turkey,Austro-Hungary,Germany & Bulgaria. These are not military badges as such, sold worn on home front to civilians, soldiers on leave. Very nice finds...these are collectable.

oradour, thank you very much for your information! I appreciate it..

So, in your opinion, the Austrian Badge is period made?

Found an identical badge here in Canada in the mid 1970's on a football field at my High School.
I think it may be an Austrian ski badge, or a souvenir piece.

Wished I had kept it, as I was impressed with the enamel
    - it was very well made and looked nice !

    Gents,

Can anyone provide a sense of what these are worth? I just want to make sure my expenditure was justified. Thank you!

buellmeister, Walkwolf is correct on that one, badge 2 probably dates between post WW2 to date, due to the fact to the colours on the shield being red/white (current Austrian flag colours), during WW1 the national colours for Austro-Hungary were black/yellow and these are the colours one sees on WW1 pieces. I would give a price of around £10-15 ($20) on badges 1 & 3, badge 2 the souvenir piece about £2-3 ($5).

    I agree with Oradour's evaluation.

The patriotic/commemorative medals are extremely interesting and very collectible
but do not cost all that much. I hope you did OK on them as they are really nice !
    Regards,

    Steve.
