I can't seem lately to get away from WWI German items! Yesterday I went in a junk shop I occasionally visit and there lay this beat-up but genuine canteen, unfortunately as you can see missing its stopper, cover, and strap. Nevertheless, as I didn't have a WWI example and this retains about half or 2/3 its original paint and a nice label I paid the $24 and brought it home. Since it's enameled steel I believe it's a M.1917; the inscription on the label reads L. HUTZLER - BLIERFELD - 17

A bare bones but honest WW I German feldflasche.
