Family items are always the best, whatever they happen to be. You must be very proud to be able to hold these things in your hands. It really puts things into perspective for us, just a few generations later.

It was a terrible war that claimed many lives. It's a sobering thought that we are only here today because our direct ancestors survived the horror. I may or may not have relatives who died during the Great War. No members of my family who are alive today know for certain. It's a shame when family history is lost, as very often it can never be recovered. You are very fortunate to have these memories of your grandfather.

My grandfather fought and thankfully came home alive, surviving the Somme.

I have a whole bunch of war documents that I will have to review
I know from the stories that they hunger and have continuous attacks, but they kept their position.

You are very fortunate indeed. Not only to have artifacts like this, but to have such a comprehensive collection. The documentation in particular sounds very historically interesting.
