    I have a M16 stahlhelm with a name written inside it, twice; once on the helmet skirt, and once on the leather liner band. I canít figure out what the name is, though, and so was hoping some kind member might be able to decipher it, and let me know what it is:

    Maybe: S(ergt. ?) Meihsen
    But the sergeant is an english rank.

    The first name looks like it maybe the german form of George

    Actually, I understand that Sergeant WAS a German army rank during WW1. See here: German Ranks - Over The Front

    Thanks for your reply! I agree that the name could be Meihsen. Or, perhaps, Meifsen (note the signature on the leather band appears to have an “f” in it, rather than an “h”).

    Okay, I think Iíve got it, thanks in no small part to the board members who replied! I believe the name is Sergt. Meissen, with the double s of Meissen done in the German style of the time:
