I just picked this one up yesterday-----

These things were given away as a prize in cereal boxes
in the US back in the 1950s.

From what I understand, there was a series of different awards
from different countries including the British VC.

Hey guys, I see this is an older thread but I thought I would comment because I just had a laugh related to a piece like this... I discovered that a certain notoriously shady dealer, whose name incidentally sounds like "shyster" is selling one of these things as a "very scarce Veteran's lapel medal" for nearly $400.00 ... I should pick it up along with those authentic Himmler collar tabs.

Anyway, nice and interesting piece, Chopperman. Seems collectible in its own right.
