but it was just too cool to pass it by.

Breast cross of the Order of the Teutonic Knights.
This one dates to about the 1860s.

It measures 58.3 x 63.1 and weighs in at 46grms and is
heavily vaulted. The glass enamel has a bit of damage to
the high point in the center and the multi-piece silver frame
is starting to get a nice patina to it. I think it will display
    nicely with my Eks.

So was this a military or a civic type of award?

    Thanks
Here is a quick picture to compare size. I was hoping to do
a nice artistic picture but have not had time and I've been
just itching to show it off.

When originally founded back in 1190 there was a military
part of the Order. Very much like the Knights Templer.
By the time this was made, it was just a civilian organization.

I'm impressed with the size of the cross. I would have bought it too, Greg.

A friend knows I collect WW2 and found a 6' tall sig rune for me. It's actually a base for decorative glass but when stood on end, it's a giant rune. It's found a place in the garage. I'll add a pic when I make one. But my item was not an award as yours is.

The Knights Templer was the first thing that came to mind when I read "Order of the Teutonic Knights".But since that Friday the 13th and Phillip the Fair, I thought no way could it be connected. The line cut's and the beading around the edge just give it such appeal! Really just a Beautiful piece. I now see what they were trying to emulate with the EK's

I would have dismissed it as fake/fantasy.

How did you come across it and how did you know it was the real deal?

    Glenn,
I found it at a military show. I had no idea what
it was or if it was real or not. The owner had just some
very vague information on it but mentioned he had posted
it on another forum. So I started digging.

I am happy that it has the history that it does BUT quite
honestly, I would have bought it anyway just because of
    the way it looks.
