I would guess that the small piece is for use on a ribbon bar.

    Nice cased cross !

I read somewhere that awards with cases are for officers,
enlisted men receiving theirs in paper packets...........
    Regards,

    Steve.

I am sure that the vast majority of 2nd class were awarded in packets.
However there was a booming business in private purchase crosses. Crosses
bought for second uniforms, replacements for lost crosses ect. I would bet
that MOST of those were sold in cases.

i agree with chopperman a lot of german officers went and brought secondary crosses and some just brought them if they hadn't been given one but it is still a brilliant cross i envy you for it

Hello guys after 2 months the set arrived today
Seller is Spaniard and wrote on the parcel Chipre but someone in Spanish postal read it as Chille and it travelled all the way to Latin America
    I can't believe some people.
So after all the small piece of ribbon is indeed for use on a small ribbon bar as Adrian and Chopper guessed.
The maker's mark is very weird, i can't make it out. I hope you can.
More photos coming soon coz i need free time and daylight. Today i had only the latter
