Oppinions on M17

Article about: Sounds good to me, I paid I think 400 euro for my example which from memory is an M16. I like especially the remains of Ypres mud in the vent lug.

    Hi guys,

What's your opinion on this M17.
It seems it has been camo painted !?

I see a faint camo job there. Looks to have had a glossy coat of some sort though. Liner looks odd to me as well, but may very easily be a type I have never seen (I honestly haven't seen a lot).

I agree......................investigate the liner leather pads, some one may of stuffed/poked them behind the metal liner band which looks to be original, probably thinking they were making the helmet more acceptable, I have seen it done before (originally they were crimped onto the metal liner band) when in reality it would better of as a shell with a liner band !
Otherwise a nice helmet mm "Si 66", "Eisenhuette Silesia", of Paruschowitz, Oberschlesien.....they only made two sizes of shell a 62 & 66.........the other marking on the inside of the crown of the helmet "Bi630" is a heating lot code, indicating the rolling mill the steel came from, in this case the rolling mills at Oberschlesien, Bismarckhutte.
    Prost ! Steve.

Personally, I'd pull that liner out of it and leave it as a nice camo shell with the metal band...

Nice shell with possibly a shellack coating. Does the paint smell at all?

Thanks for all the comments :-)
Glenn, I dont know, cause it is a helmet I consider, and have not seen it in hand !
But you guys have the same (bad) feeling about the liner as I do, so I will probably leave this one :-/
It has a starting price at 100 euros and a "buy now" price at 250 euros, not too bad I think !?

That seems a reasonable price for a good sound helmet.
