Original WWI German "trench" sign

[Croix de Guerre]

An original wooden WWI German medical sign brought home as a souvenir by a volunteer with the American Field Service who served in 1915-1916. The sign reads " Verwundeten Lagerraum" which if my German is correct roughly translates to "Casualty Storage Room". Based upon the areas this American volunteer served, it is likely that this sign came from captured German trenches in either the Hartsmannsweilerkopf or somewhere around Verdun. Not many of these survived till today I wouldn't imagine.

Croix de Guerre, I totally agree with Walkwolf, splendid piece of rarely seen memorabilia.....I would certainly have this displayed in my 'museum'. Thanks for showing.....

Thanks for the kind words. There are actually four more medical related smaller signs with the group as well some other German items, but I haven't gotten them yet. When I do I will be sure and share them if you would like.
