    Klepp joined in 1912 as a one-year volunteer in the 2nd Kurhessisches Infantry Regiment, a 82nd In 1913, he was the 3rd Sub-Alsatian Infantry Regiment No. 138 in Dieuze lieutenant and fought during the First World War in this regiment as leader of a machine gun company.
