    Default Pickelhaube Helmet Identification

    Hi Guys,

Iíve been trying to find info on this helmet and the wood stretcher but I havenít had much luck so Iím hoping you guys can offer some help. It belongs to a friend of mine and has been in his family for a long time. Unfortunately at some point in its life it was used as a flower pot. I assumed its Austro-Hungarian but Iím not so sure.

I would also like to give him some idea of what each piece might be worth?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank You!

An unusual helmet. The FJI on the chest shield would tell me that it is Austrian (FJI for "Franz Joseph I"). A shame that it is heavily damaged. No clue to it's value in it's present state, but it certainly would be worth a fair price. The wood stretcher is simply just that-a stretcher to keep hats and such from shrinking with drying over time. You expand or contract it's size by twisting the post between the 2 half moon ends. I use one to this day to keep my fedora's in comfortable fitting condition. You can still buy them.
