    Hello,
I am looking at making an offer on ONE of these two Officer Pickelhaubes.
    I want to know:
    A. Do they look authentic or messed with?
    B. Are there any issues with them (I know the Prussian pickelhaube is missing the cockade)?
    C. Which of the two would be the better purchase?
    D. What are reasonable values for them (ball-park)?
    Thank you in advance.

FIRST UP IS THE PRUSSIAN PICKELHAUBE

am looking at making an offer on ONE of these two Officer Pickelhaubes.
    I want to know:
    A. Do they look authentic or messed with?
    B. Are there any issues with them (I know the Prussian pickelhaube is missing the cockade)?
    C. Which of the two would be the better purchase?
    D. What are reasonable values for them (ball-park)?
A.) Yes, both are o.k. and unmessed with by all appearances in the photos.
B.) The Prussian one is correct with the 1-Prussian kokarde being worn, because the helmet was made before 1897. As a general "rule of thumb" they would wear only their state color kokarde before March of 1897. The Prussian helmet is configured correctly as is, with the 1-kokarde as shown in your photos.

Regarding the Prussian Reserve Officer Helmet: I personally don't care for helmets where the mercury fire gilding has turned dark on the brass fittings. That is just a personal preference I have.

C.) The Bavarian one is the far better deal at the current prices the seller has posted on them.
D.) If I was the seller (I am not), I would go down on price of the Prussian reserve officer helmet, in the range of $900 to $1,000 range in order for it to sell.
The Bavarian one is actually priced fairly reasonable, and is a good deal at the price the seller has it. I witnessed a friend of mine paying about 1/2 the price on this Bavarian helmet for a set of M15 Officer chinscales at the S.O.S. this past winter that had been all polished up. The chinscales on this helmet IMO are worth approximately half of what the seller is asking currently for the helmet. In other words: M15 Officer chinscales are rare to find, and very expensive if you are lucky enough to find them on the loose. I suggested to this same friend that he should buy this Bavarian helmet for his collection the same day it came up for sale, and advised him to sell his other Bavarian M15 helmet, as this one is in quite nice shape, and the parts are all original to the helmet. He didn't go for it, for whatever reasons he had.

    Best Regards,

    Alan

Both are for Reserve Officers. I agree with ww1czechlegion's comments.

I like the Bavarian as well, but the Prussian looks to be in better condition. I'm Hoping that we're not seeing leather rot on the Bavarian's front visor...

The crown on the Bavarian appears slightly collapsed (a common occurrence with the cruciform spike bases) so the shell would require reforming to return it to original shape. That aside, I still prefer it over the Prussian for the same reasons put forward by Alan
