Looks OK to me. The silver frame has a nice patina to it. The
ribbon ring looks to be maker marked. The core looks like it
may have been polished or possibly repainted but it's not an issue
as it was well done.-----No red flags that I can see.

    Greg,

Do you think this might be one of those crosses that has a blued iron core instead of painted?

I did think of that, and that's very possible. On the very top picture, the crown really shows a blue cast to it. I was going to check a couple of my crosses to compare core details but I haven't made it that far yet.

That blue shade also is what caught my eye. Also, the high luster finish reminds me of the blued one that I had years ago...it was beautiful.

    Hi chopperman,

    II have a final question.
When you say it's not an issue, you mean that's original front the war period (1914-1918) or what????

    Thanks, guys!

Hi Fpicoli, I agree it looks fine. The maker mark looks like EW an unknown maker. Here's my example from the EK thread. See #72.

It is a period made original cross. I would be happy to have it in
my own collection. My "issue" comment was concerning what I had believed to be a repainted or polished core. Some people
(myself included) think that repainting or over polishing a cross
lessons the appeal of a cross. But that is just personal preference.

The more I look at this cross, I think that Steve is right in saying
that the core is a blued steel core and not a painted cast iron core.
Blued cores are not found very often andmake a nice addition to any EK collection.
