'S-W' is 'Sy & Wagner'. Perfectly good - and a quality
maker, IMO. Not rare per se, as they can be found
quite easily. This mark is also seen on EKI's.........

Steve.
I agree with Steve.

NIce quality cross from a fairly common maker.
I'm holding judgement on the ribbon. That is one I would
like to see in person to be sure about.
It is not one of the early S-W cores. Please take a look at the
one posted by Ralph just a couple days ago-------

It's a completely different looking core. The crown, date and "W" are all different.

I was addicted to the "Hokey-Pokey" but I've turned
myself around.
I took the ribbon off and the tear visible near the top nearly came apart. I measured it and it has the 13 ribs per centimetre (I think that's right but I had the article pulled up when I did it) and the thread passes the burn test perfectly, just ash. It's REALLY old and very fragile ribbon. I was scared to thread it back through! I got this from an antique and estate dealer in NY, it came from an estate sale. I'm very happy with it personally.
You did your homework
My reason for the comment was from the pictures, I could
not get a good feel for how the looped edges of the ribbon looked.
One edge looked knotted instead of looped which usually is not a
good sign.
Congrats on a nice cross.

Sy-Wagner, one of my favorite makers :-)
Nice cross, but not early sand cast core !
