Unmarked examples of the 98/05 are not terribly uncommon. It may be a private purchase "walking out" bayonet. If there is a "crowned fractur letter" inspection mark on the pommel above the locking mechanism then it was inspected for issue and was government property and likely issued and used.
Pesonally, and it is only my preferance, I tend to avoid any unmarked examples of any bayonet simply for the added interest value that the various makers and issue /inspection marks add to a piece, having said that I have one or two unmarked bayonets which I collected years ago when I first got into collecting which when placed side by side with the same 'marked' one there is no difference to the feel or functionality of the two, but I know which one i'd keep if I had to sell one of them.........but it is a personal choice of cource........although I think it can make a difference to the value..........I think marked ones will always attract more interest.
The marks referred to in previous post.
thanks guys
as always its much appreceated
i think i will give this one a miss
and get a marked one.
thanks again
tony.
