    Default Saxon GR Saber

Saxon GR Cavalry Saber: Model 1867 private purchase weapon with massive cast brass ¾ basket hilt with a large brass, crowned Saxon crest brass mounted with two rivets on the knuckle guard, hard rubber grip, leather finger loop (broken) attached with a large brass screw; 32” fullered blade, triple etched with floral designs, stands of trophy arms, a crowned Saxon state emblem, etc with distributer mark “E. Walther Dresden” on the spine. The blade has a period repair just above the fuller. Saber is complete in its regulation steel scabbard with double static rings and asymmetrical drag. Note: E. Walther of Dresden is listed in Klaus Hilbert’s Blankwaffen aus drei Jahrhunderten (page 18) as a purveyor of military accessories from 1871-1890.

This is one part of a grouping recently acquired by a friend that came from a USAAF veteran's estate. Other pieces included a Russian shashka, various Imperial swords, bayonet and a WW2 German Army officer's dagger.
