    Hi everyone,

I'm currently researching the journey made by U-19 which brought Roger Casement to Ireland in 1916. It departed Heligoland on the 15th of April 1916. It dropped off Roger Casement on the 21st April 1916 to Banna Strand in Ireland. The U-19 commander was Raimund Weisbach.

I understand there are several photographs taken on that particular journey in 1916. Would anyone have any information on that U-19 mission or know where I might be able to locate any relevant photographs or anyone I could contact?

Any help would be much appreciated!

    Hi there,

I did some research about the U-19.

Sir Roger David Casement was not the only person that got on board of the U-19. David Casement came with 2 friends and wanted to fight for the independence of Ireland. I don't have to tell you, that it was a very special order for Weisbach to do this.
Weisbach dropped the guys at Ballyheige Bay so they could go on their "mission".
The reason that the German Reich (commanders) allowed this was, the hope that David Casement and his friends could create a distraction for Great Brittian and their war efforts on the European mainland.
The U-19 should meet the armstransporter "Libau" at the Ballyheige Bay (the Libay operated under Norwegian name "Aud"). It is still unknown till this day, why the two ships missed each other and why Casement couldn't get contact with the armstransporter.

Hope i could help you with this information

The canon in the pictures below is one of the canons from the U-19
In the picture with the U-boote the U-19 is the second from the right in the front row.
