    Just back from a 3 day WW1 conference at Naroch in Belarus. One of the attendees found the belt buckle on the left at Naroch. He thinks it's quite rare with not many being made and was special for African units. He wondered how it ended up at Naroch - Is he right -

    From what I understand that buckle was worn by Imperial troops (units raised by the central government and not by individual states), they could be colonial, Marine, or Naval.

    It's a naval or colonial buckle. Having been found in Eastern Europe, I would say it was naval issue.
